She says that the eyeball is the best guide to use for the tweezing process. From the eyeball, use a makeup brush to line up the outer edge of the iris. The area it hits becomes your arch, which is where you will get most of the hair out. This area is sometimes called the DEAD CENTER. For those who have naturally thin eyebrows, this could be just a few hairs.

Start tweezing. Maitri suggests the use of slanted tweezers. She says, "Be careful not to tweeze past the inner corner of your eye, that's your starting point. And don't tweeze the ends as they usually never grow back." After tweezing, make sure to apply aloe or cortisone cream to soothe your skin.

Once you are done tweezing, you can now start filling in your eyebrows. How to pencil eyebrows depends on the type of your eyebrows and the look that you want to achieve. Makeup pro Nico Guilis recently shared his tips with ELLE beauty editor Julie Schott. Here they are:

  • Start with having dry and clean eyebrows.
  • Put a brush at the side of your nose to know where your brows should begin.
  • Place the bush in an angle from the outer corner of your eye to the outer side of your nose to identify where your brows should end. Guilis says, "The end of the brow's point should be at a 45-degree angle from the end of the eye."
  • Using a spoolie brush, brush up your brows to help you look at the shape that you prefer and to find out uneven areas.
  • Using an eyebrow pencil, copy you natural eyebrow hairs by using short dash like strokes to softly fill in sparse areas.
  • For the pencil color, you can choose the one that is the best match for your brows. For a natural look, fill in lightly.
  • With an angled brush and like-colored pressed powder, define your eyebrow shape further. Make it look more even without making the end points appear too harsh or overly filling the inside corners.
  • Again, carefully brush through your brows using a spoolie to effectively blend in the color and soften the hard lines. You can make several layers until you achieve the shade that you want.
  • To hold the hairs in place and set your preferred shape, comb your eyebrows with a colored gel. Take note that colored gels can get messy. You can opt to use a transparent formula that is commercially available, as well.
  • Using a fluffy brush, dip it into a translucent powder and trace the edges of the brows to make it look clean and sharp.

Always remember that you should have a picture of what you want to achieve with eyebrows and that it should match your entire makeup. For example, you want to go for a natural look; you can just lightly brush up your eyebrows and apply transparent brow gel. On the other hand, if your makeup is for a night out with friends, go for a dramatic look with a colored brow gel.

The Brow Pens or Markers: The least used of all the brow tools that also does wonders when used the right way. Similar to lip pens, the eyebrow pens have felt tips that can distribute pigments of color into your eyebrows. To the uninitiated, it may feel awkward to use because it looks like a marker.
