You will know that glandular fever hit you when you experience these three most common symptoms:
- High fever measuring 38C or above
- Painful sore throat (the pain of which is more intense than the usual sore throat)
- Swelling of your glands usually in the neck, and sometimes in other parts of the body such as the armpits
- Inflammation of the tonsils
- Severe fatigue or listlessness
- Skin rash specifically tiny purple spot on the mouth area
- Head ache and pain in the joints and muscles
- Abdominal pain
- Yellowing of the skin and the white area of the eyes or commonly known as jaundice
- Inflammation of the spleen and liver
Glandular fever typically hits teenagers or young adults, but it adults are not exempt from the disease. Here are the symptoms glandular fever adults:
- High fever
- Jaundice
Adults who contract the fever will not usually manifest the common symptoms such as swelling of the glands and painful sore throat. It is therefore important that adults, as well as the rest, who suspect they have the fever or when experiencing the symptoms should consult their physician. Saliva transmits the virus so be careful in kissing.
Usually you will undergo blood testing to confirm if what you have is indeed the kissing disease. There is no treatment specific to the disease itself, but you can manage the symptoms. Bed rest and other natural remedy can speed up the process of healing from glandular fever symptoms.
